Mike - Trumpet, Vocals, Lead Choreographer

Why, hello there! I'm Mike. I'm not sure if you stumbled in here intentionally or not, but while you're here, let's talk about me, shall we?

Hopping aboard the Way Back Machine, my musical journey began as a wee lad back in 1995. I was just in fourth grade when the letters went out asking if we wanted to join the school band. To this day, I'm not sure what exactly drew me to the trumpet, but I was determined to play it. It was the first time in my life that I made a big decision for myself, and who knew that all these years later it would prove to be such a defining part of my life. As soon as I could put two notes together, I threw myself into every ensemble I could. Concert bands, jazz bands, wind ensembles, marching bands. It didn't matter. I was in deep, and just couldn't get enough.

My first foray into playing shows for people my own age came in high school. Those of you who are familiar with the South Jersey ska scene circa 2002 will undoubtedly remember the Legendary, All-Time Great bands Drive Thru Pharmacy and the Cherry Tarts. It was here, playing with these powerhouse bands in church halls and basements, that I first learned the art of terrible dance moves and stage antics (if I've mastered nothing else in my life, this is certainly it!). I slugged away with these bands for many years, playing with Drive Thru Pharmacy as recently as 2011.

In college, I spent four years marching with the Penn State Blue Band, where I learned endurance and how to play really, REALLY, obnoxiously loud (there's a reason why in some of our smaller venues I don't even bother playing into a microphone). Through college and law school, I really let my inner band geek shine through by becoming a marching band instructor for Pitman High School. In 2011, I wanted badly to get back into playing, so I joined the South Jersey rockers Ten Eddy Drive and played in many a watering hole with them for over 2 years.

Then, in October of 2013, my cousin Shannon floated me the idea of trying out for Just Another Band. After just one practice, I knew I was hooked. As we transitioned from JAB to our current moniker 88MPH, this band has never been anything but a blast to work with. We're all about having a party, and honestly what could be better?

So that's my story. Outside of music, I work full time as a county prosecutor in South Jersey. I live in Cherry Hill with my lovely fiancee Jamie (getting hitched July 16!) and our cat Carlos.
